Free Rent Proration Calculator
Calculate exactly what you owe for a partial month — instantly.
What is Rent Proration?
Rent proration is the process of calculating a partial month's rent when a tenant moves in or out on a day other than the first of the month. Instead of charging a full month, the rent is divided by the number of days in that month and multiplied by the days the tenant actually occupies the unit.
It's one of the most common calculations in property management — and one of the easiest to get wrong when done by hand.
How is Prorated Rent Calculated?
The formula is straightforward:
Prorated Rent = Daily Rate × Days Occupied
For example, if rent is $1,500 and a tenant moves in on the 10th of a 30-day month, they owe 21 days × $50/day = $1,050. Our calculator handles the math instantly for any move-in date.
